About the Mentorship Program

In building the next generation of leaders, Hamzat Lawal, CEO of Connected Development (CODE) and Malala Education Champion is initiating The Grassroots Activist mentorship program, aimed at building capacity and creating opportunities for young leaders in Nigeria.

Since transitioning into civilian rule, Nigeria has grappled with incompetent and corrupt leadership on almost every level of governance. Where there are exceptions, the individuals are left to deal with a failure in systems and institutions – indicating the need for a new generation of leaders who cannot only govern but build institutions that outlive their reign.

It is on this premise that The Grassroots Activist mentorship program is looking to build a new generation of leaders who understand the tenets of leadership and are willing to build their individual capacity to operate as a leader in a new Nigeria.

Focusing on building capacity, developing connections and providing opportunities, the mentorship program will expose successful applicants to the thought process of reputable Nigerians leaders in various sectors and industries, as well as teach how to develop ideas from scratch, create structures and improve institutions by leveraging technology and social media.

You will gain exclusive access to development experts and training, discuss your ideas with and network with some of Nigeria’s most senior leaders.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The Grassroots Activist mentorship program is for potential leaders between the ages of 18-29, with a passion for and track record of serving citizens in various capacities in their environment and communities.
  • You must be able to prove your interest in development and or humanitarian work.
